My name
My first name is pronounced as if the D and the H have switched places, and my last name is anyone's guess. Family, friends, and colleagues all call me 'Rad', so likewise please feel free to.
Me
I was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka and immigrated to Toronto, Canada shortly thereafter. While I went to a fairly serious high school where most thought anything non-STEM was a waste of time, money, and potential, I was fortunate enough to meet many unserious friends and a few exceptional teachers who fostered a love for the humanities in me.
I ended up at the University of Toronto, where I majored in philosophy. I initially wanted to go to law school and taking a great many philosophy courses was just what you did to prepare for law school, but I ended up adoring the subject more as an end than a mere means. During my time there, I enjoyed an Assistantship in the Department of Philosophy and a Fellowship at the Centre for Ethics, both of which immensely benefited me as a young philosopher. Toronto has a very distinct philosophical style (instilled in me particularly by Brendan de Kenessey, Arthur Ripstein, and Tom Hurka), and I am grateful to have brought some of that to Montreal where I now happily reside, terrorizing McGill's philosophy department and Harvard's Center for Bioethics. I can be frank (and uncharacteristically Aristotelian) in saying that graduate studies in philosophy are just about the best way a young person can spend their 20s.
I love both Montreal and Toronto, in different ways for different reasons. Among other things I love include drinking tea with my mom, my friends (serious or otherwise), playing the guitar, watching films, reading novels, and spending time with my dog, Cassie.
Here is a link to a short interview I did with the American Philosophical Association in 2024.
Cassie
Here are some photos of Cassie, who I am unreasonably fond of, at different stages.
